Welcome to CHADD of Kern County...

We provide support, training, and advocacy for the 17 million children and adults in the United States living with ADHD, as well as their families, educators, and healthcare professionals. As the home of the National Resource Center on ADHD, funded by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) is the most trusted source for reliable, science-based information on current medical research and ADHD management. We offer comprehensive programs and services at both national and local levels.

ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental disorder marked by a persistent pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can significantly interfere with daily functioning and life achievements. It is a non-discriminatory condition affecting people of all ages, genders, IQs, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds across the United States.

Typically, ADHD begins in childhood and often persists into adolescence and adulthood. Research indicates that at least 75 percent of children with ADHD continue to experience symptoms into adulthood, yet an estimated four out of five adults with ADHD remain undiagnosed.

Individuals with ADHD face numerous challenges that can impact their functioning in social, academic, and professional settings. The disorder can lead to significant impairments in school and work, as well as difficulties in relationships. If ADHD is not properly identified, diagnosed, and treated, it can have severe consequences, including increased risk of substance abuse, accidental injuries, and legal issues.

Fortunately, ADHD is highly manageable with an individualized, multimodal treatment approach. This may include behavioral interventions, parent and patient training, educational support, and medication.

CHADD Local Groups Need Your Support

CHADD has local groups throughout the United States. Each group offers programming or information specific to their geographic area. Local CHADD groups offer assistance for parents, children, young adults, adults and other stakeholders (psychologists, teachers, doctors, etc.). CHADD groups also provide advocacy, support, networking and information to those affected by ADHD in their communities.

Ways you can support these efforts are as follows:

  • Donate to this effort

  • Contact your local CHADD group to advocate for support groups

  •  Contact your school district to host and support newly forming or current groups

  • Contact your local community foundation or other foundations in your area to support this effort

For questions on these, or any options to support CHADD please visit our web site at https://CHADD..org or contact the CHADD National office at (301) 306-7070.
